Complacency: a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect or the like.

Don’t let complacency rob you in this new year of prosperity! Keep plans of new businesses fresh and alive  by reading all the trade magazines about your “wanna-be” business that you can get your hands on. Contact your city’s Small Business Association ( in the U.S.A., S.C.O.R.E.) and get a mentor. The lively discussion between you two, will keep you “juicy!” Use your mentor’s past exploits as a future road map!

Refresh your existing businesses by taking classes and attending seminars in your field; stay updated! Travel and see how others, in your profession, are doing “it”. Breathe life into that dusty, old venture!

Complacency is a thief! Stay on top of it by constantly adding new looks and views to a business you’re planning or one that’s already in existence!

Ma and Dad~poem

I pray they went to
HEAVEN
knowing that it's over
We are on the other side of the "curse"
We made it, will walk in the light
and "grow up as calves of the stall."

Father has released us.

I pray they went to
HEAVEN
knowing that...

2000, cont'~ a memoir

 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, the Trying years (memoir)
Unfortunately, when I reached out for help, I went knocking on the witchdoctor's door. He sold me this amazing candle(and many more thereafter). I was told to light the candle when I felt an attack coming on and to sit it someplace in my presence. An unassuming candle, but like magic, it worked.

I asked him if I could take the candle down the road with me, you know, while I open and close the doors on the train, but he said because of the surroundings, it might have an adverse effect on me. DAMN!

2000~ a memoir~ Part 1

 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, the Trying years (memoir)

It's 2:00 A.M. and a peek out the window reveals no one is up, except me and the moon.Unspeakable loneliness. Just had one of those anxiety attacks where my mind ,literally, does a somersault and I'm in an insane asylum, straight jacket and all. Thinking back on it now, the only thing the bit humorous about it was me calling out for my ex to help me.

What brought this particular attack on was racing thoughts of a job strike. There was talk of a strike...no money...no money...fines; one thing led to another. I grabbed my Bible and lay it on my chest, open. Concentrating and praying, the load is lightened, my heart rate slows and I am calmed.

I get ready for work...conducting a NYC subway, 10-car consist on the A.M. rush hour. If they only knew...

Set Priorities.
"Brainstorm and write down a list of priorities in your life. This list will include anything and everything you're dedicated to and want to spend your time on, including work, family, education, spirituality and friendships. Write until you can't think of anything else. If you repeat items, that is okay. Oftentimes, repeated items on the list represent the things that are most important to you."via E-How.com

2004 (memoir)

2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, the Trying years (memoir)

Peek in on 2004....
My life had been steadily reeling out of control. I was still working, but the environment was getting extremely dire. A rumor had started that I was in line for a job as a superintendent in the NYCTA. I kid you not! People were actually believing this nonsense. I was met with so much hate and animosity. Rumor had it, that I had a big-wig looking out for my interests. Although I never heard this point being made, I'm sure it was said that I was returning his favor with favors of my own. Employees that had been down with NYCTA for years were outraged.

Common sense went out the window. Everyone, systemwide, was talking about this conductor(eight years on the job, mind you) being promoted to Superintendent. EVERYONE had an opinion about it.

Also around this time, I was dreadfully lonely for male companionship. So what do I do? I get a jar of honey and put not one name, but the name of two NYCTA admirers in it. That situation took my TA experience to a "whole "nother level". I kid you not.
Eventually, I went out on an extended sick leave. But of course it wasn't that simple. I went to a NYCTA psychiatrist( no meds were ever prescribed) and had chiropractic sessions. Why? Doing these things enabled me to have an exit interview, cleanly severing ties with the NYCTA.

Utterly confused and battered, I was on welfare and in housing court.

1, 2, 3, 0r 4?

Tuesday morning. Big City,U.S.A.,  10 A.M.

You've just finished that delicious cup of Vanilla Cappuccino and now you're stuck with an empty cup. What do you do with it?

1) Toss it in a street garbage can.

2) Put it in your purse/pocket to dispose of it at your destination.

3) Leave it under the train, bus, ferry seat.

4) Throw it in the gutter.

5) Flick it at the homeless man.

For arguments' sake, let's say the choice you make is the choice thousands of your city neighbors will make on the same morning, at the same time...

                             1, 2, 3, or 4?

How would your city look at 10:15 A.M.?

Style on the Desk...Creatively Yours!

Do you need something vibrant and jazzy for your desk space? Something totally YOU and new for 2013?

Here are some DIY ideas for pen and pencil holders. These "not so ordinary" small desk accessories, will beautify your space in a creative and cost-friendly way!

1) Small, colorful gift bags-
These holders dress up a drab office desk while being functional pen and pencil holders. Get ones made of fused plastic, fabric, laminated paper, nylon mesh, etc. and there's no need to sturdy them with a coat of shellac or liquid adhesive.

2) Clam shell halves-
Collect these holders on your next beach stroll. Nature meets your writing implements in a clean and fresh way! Don't paint and/or otherwise decorate the shell. Let the natural color and ridges enliven your work space.

3) Women's Wooden and Metal Bangles (Wide Style)-
A friend gifted me with a fashionable bangle that was just a wee bit tight to slide up on my wrist. I sat it on my table and found that it made a cute pen and pencil holder! Pick up a few bangles at your local thrift shop and let your pens dance in jewelry!

4) Small boxes, ie baking soda boxes, cornbread mix boxes, etc.-
Wrap these boxes in decorative duct tape, beads, stickers and decorate your desk with beautiful and original holders perfect for your writing tools!

Free your creative self, while adding a sweet and colorful odor to your work space, joyfully and inexpensively!

Change is a Place called YOU!

Hot summer night. Queens is pulsating. The music. The 'benz. The dude. But something just ain't right. I'm trying to get lost in the beauty of his physique, the "fineness" of it all, but not even the buzz attributed to five Long Island Iceteas is doing the trick.

"Pull this bitch over," I cry out. He's totally amazed and startled, but he does it. I struggle to get the car door open, but  before I can completely swing the lever, he gives me a shove, pushing me out. I land face first on the ground.

"Why, you dirty lowlife #$!!!!##!." As he drives off, I hear the car laughing at me. The music fades as he speeds into the balmy Queens heat. The world is spinning fast and out of control. I make it to my feet and grab hold of a tree.

"Miss, are you alright?" A talking tree?! Dude musta slipped me something extra in those drinks!

"Do you need a doctor?" As I focus, shaking the fog out of my brain, I realize I'm holding onto a woman. She's tall, brown, mid-sixties with a look of motherly concern on her face(which by the way, is lit up like Christmas Eve!)

"Did you see what he did, mam? I'm so embarrassed, but I'm ok....please, just help me to the bench."

She took me by the hand, led me over to the bench, making sure I was seated before she sat down beside me.

"What would make a man throw a seemingly nice young lady, like yourself, out a car door?Glad it wasn't moving."

"Yeah, me too. Anyway I met him at the club, he bought me some drinks, we talked; he seemed reasonably intelligent and DID YOU SEE HIM?"

"No, I didn't-fancy was he?"

"Fine as hell. One thing led to another and I was in his car headed back to his apartment. You know how it is."

"Um, no I don't. Never did let a strange man pick me up in a bar...don't you think that's rather dangerous, sweetie?" The young woman thought about it a few minutes and nodded. What appeared to be desperation on her part was just that-desperation. Work, home, then back to work again. Last night was the first time she'd been out in months. Grabbing "handsome's" attention was just the lift she'd needed- or so she thought. The strange lady looked her straight in the eye:
"So many young women look for love in all the wrong places. They look for their reflection in
a man's face. It's as if he's the answer to all her problems, whether it be companionship, money
or both. All the answers to your questions, dear, are inside of yourself. It's not fair to hold another
person responsible for your happiness, peace and tranquility."
The young woman, a bruise the size of a walnut now on her forehead, knew the tall, shining woman was right. Tears streamed down her face and she bowed her head in shame. When she regained her composure and lifted her head, the tall, shining lady was gone as if she never existed. Not even shocked, the young woman straightened her clothes and stood to her feet. She had change in her heart and something  to think about on her mind.
                             THINK ABOUT IT!

First Date

Remember that chilly October day when you coulda had it all, but took none, not even a kiss? You "jeeped" me over to Manhattan, to see a play,
but flew back. Looking up, I wondered how you knew, fo' sure, what was going on behind those skyscraper windows(now I know)

I was so flustered, I couldn't even tell you what route to take back to my home(Was she feigning ignorance? No!)
You played like you were shooting a flare gun into the sky ;-)    Damn, I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag!

Sitting in front of the address, finally, and I lunged, but you weren't having it. All I got was a whiff of your cologne.

Subtle scent for a unsubtle day. . .

A REVIEW: Pumi Bar by Mr.Pumice

Being so tired of the ineffective exfoliating paddles and the array of unproductive sloughing tools, I decided I wanted to try genuine pumice to smooth my feet. I found a potent, 5x2in. brick called Pumi Bar by Mr. Pumice.
Pumice: porous or spongy form of volcanic glass.....

This product is the TRUTH!

Comfortable to use, my heels were smoothed in minutes. Pumi Bar has two sides (course and extra course) for custom use on various parts of the foot. Use it wet or dry; it's safe to be used with your favorite scented scrub or anti-bacterial solution. Although the package says you can use it on the hands and elbows, I found it to be extremely rough on my elbows... OUCH! Proceed with caution. *smiles*

Washable and reusable, pick up a Pumi Bar at Sally's Beauty Supply for about $5.00!~ Why wait for springtime to get those hermosos pies, smooooooth and stunning!

Breakthrough

Winter has gone mad
the snow. cold crusted over
like the frost
in an old ice-box

"Gray clouds fill the Heavens"

Then the sun finally appears
friends show you the most
nothing       is asked in return
hand in hand, they HUM,

"one size fits all....."

We like the differences...yes, we really do!

Today Q. brought in an eight pack of a yellow bar soap...count 'em - eight bars, in a cellophane package. I'd called him at work and asked him to pick up some soap. "Here", he said, as he handed me the tools needed to bathe! That's what those bars mean to him. Soap: a substance used for washing and cleansing purposes. Period.

Now, me, I would have perused the drugstore shelves sniffing and touching, running my hands over the oval and square shapes. The colors, OH THE COLORS! would have had me gazing and collecting an assortment of the lathery delights! Two pink, three white, a lavender and two turquoise ones...eight bars.

The difference between men and women, even in the small details, is what makes us so interesting to one another. Why we want his opinion on everything, why he won't make a move until we sign off on it. As long as we continue to open dialogue, letting respect and friendly feelings lead, these differences will make for long and profitable business relationships, passionate love relationships and general GOODWILL!
